Mr. James "Jimmy" Clark Phillips, Jr. of Colquitt, GA died on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at his residence. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 19, at 2:00 PM, at Colquitt Funeral Home with Rev. Cory Thomas and Rev. John Calhoun officiating. Interment will follow in Colquitt City Cemetery with Algin Merritt, Rev. Cory Thomas, Cleve Roland, Robert Melton, Jerry Chapman, and Ricarlo Williams serving as active pallbearers. A visitation will be held on Friday, July 18, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Colquitt Funeral Home.
Mr. Jimmy dedicated much of his life to public service and education in Colquitt, Georgia. He served the community as both Mayor and City Councilman, and later as Superintendent of the Miller County School System, following many years as a teacher. He was also a published author and a muralist. Mr. Phillips served his country in the United States Army.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosa Phillips of Colquitt, GA; two daughters, Megan Phillips (Corey Moore) of Cartersville, GA, and Kayln (Sarah) Hancock of Albany, GA; three grandchildren, Caroline Cox, Silas Cox, and Alleigh Grace Cox; four siblings, Richard Carter, John Carter, Sybrena Showers, and Judy (Eric) Orbeta; two nephews, Derrick (Kate) Cook and Joshua Cook; one niece, Emerald (Ryan) Schumacher; one great-nephew, Logan Cook; in addition to many other family members. He was preceded in death by parents, James Clark Phillips, Sr. and Eunice Kimbrell Carter; mother-in-law, Joan King; and grandparents, Audrey and Rubye Phillips, and Paul and Vera Kimbrell.
