Jeffrey Daniel Small of Colquitt passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026, at the age of 62.
Per his wishes, Jeff will be cremated, and no services are planned.
Jeff was born in Raleigh, North Carolina on August 15, 1963. In 1972, he moved with his family to Colquitt, where he spent most of his life. From an early age, Jeff developed a passion for deer hunting and was always in search of that “big” buck.
He attended Miller County High School and Southwest Georgia Academy before continuing his education at Albany Technical College, where he studied diesel mechanics. Jeff had a lifelong love for working with heavy equipment and being outdoors, which eventually led him to establish his own business, Jeff Small Excavating Inc. Throughout the area, he became known as one of the finest heavy equipment operators around.
Above all, Jeff will be remembered for his compassionate heart and willingness to help anyone in need. He volunteered his time helping with food deliveries through Colquitt Methodist Church food bank ministry until his health declined.
Jeff is survived by his mother, Jean Small; one sister, Joanna (Wade) Everson; one niece, Kaley (Chris) Moates; and one great-niece, Rayleigh Moates. He is proceeded in death by his father, Dr. Howard Gordon Small Jr.; his paternal grandparents, Howard Gordon Small, Sr. and Rhoda “Munk” Elliott; and his maternal grandparents, Daniel Lester and Katie Jones. He also leaves behind long-time special friends Janice Obryan and William Foxworth of Chipley, Florida and Elizabeth Lewis of Panama City Beach, Florida.
