Vonnie Louise Calhoun

November 20, 1927 — February 13, 2026

Vonnie Louise Calhoun, lovingly known to her family and friends as “Baby Sis,” or “Basis” entered the gates of Heaven on Friday, February 13, 2026, at the age of 98. She was born on November 20, 1927, to Lewis Eurell Tiner and Goldie Crawford Tiner.

In 1945, she married the love of her life, Abbie Velma Calhoun. Their beautiful union lasted 53 years and was filled with devotion, faith, and love. Although they did not have children of their own, Baby Sis and Abbie became parents and grandparents in the hearts of many—especially the Cobb children—whom they cherished deeply.

Baby Sis worked as a Program Technician at the ASCS (FSA) office and retired after over 35 years of service. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Colquitt Free Will Baptist Church, first on Bremond Street and later on Grow Street. Throughout the years, she served the church in many roles, including Sunday School teacher, choir member, church clerk, secretary, and treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary (WAC). Her life was a true reflection of her love for the Lord and her commitment to serving others.

Beyond her church work, Baby Sis found great joy in spending time with her family and friends. She rarely missed an opportunity to attend children’s plays, ball games, and special activities, always offering her encouragement and warm presence. She also had a deep love for flowers and took great pride in working in her yard, where her care and attention created beauty for all to enjoy.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and parents; her sisters, Jeanette Gibson and Mavis Hines; and her brothers, Ben Tiner and Curtis Tiner. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted sister, Rejoyna Cobb, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends who were blessed by her love, kindness, and unwavering faith.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 16, at Colquitt Free Will Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m., with graveside services to follow at Colquitt Cemetery. Reverend Kent Barwick will officiate. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Pallbearers will be the deacons of Colquitt Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to flowers, donations may be made to the WAC (Colquitt Free Will Baptist Women Active for Christ) at P O Box 5, Colquitt, GA 39837
