Walter Snodgrass

July 7, 1941 — October 25, 2025

Mr. Walter B. Snodgrass born July 7, 1941, of Colquitt peacefully entered heaven on Saturday, October 25, 2025. Funeral services will be Friday, October 31, 2025, at 11:00AM at Cook’s Union Methodist Church with Rev. Jean Watson and Rev. Bobby Whittaker officiating. Interment with military honors to follow at Cook’s Union Methodist Cemetery with Rodney Phillips, Raymond English, Ronnie Joe Shiver, Darius Moss, Glenn Sheffield and Ronnie Shuler serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held Thursday evening, October 30, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at Colquitt Funeral Home.

Walter enlisted in the US Air Force in July 1960 and served five years as an airplane mechanic. He enjoyed being retired from GA Pacific after working for 38 years as a mechanic. He was a member of Cook’s Union Methodist Church where he sang in the choir for a number of years. Walter was a very active community member for years enjoying volunteer roles in the VFW, GA Pacific Retirees group, American Legion, and Southwest Georgia Academy. He served as the honorary football officials and equipment manager at SGA for years and cherished this role.

His siblings called him Bubba but others that knew Walter for any length of time probably knew him as Booger, a nickname he earned in his first few days at the paper mill. He loved his family and his community. Walter enjoyed chores of days gone by such as canning a variety of fruits and vegetables, then sharing these goodies with anyone willing to take them. Some might have caught a glimpse of him with a truck bed full of tomatoes or cabbages on a bright sunny day. When he was able, he took friends and family fishing, then treated them with a good ‘ol fashioned fish fry. Following most fish fries, he shared whatever he had with widows in his community.

He is survived by his children: Jacki Snodgrass King, Jessica Snodgrass Lawhorn, Paul Nelkie all three of Colquitt, and Nancy Snodgrass Romero (David) of Brandon, FL; siblings: Johnny Snodgrass, Russel Snodgrass (Joanne), Bettye Ann Seale (Floyd), Annette Shreve, Earl Snodgrass (Kathleen); ten grandchildren: Paige, Grace, Jacob, Emma, Taylor, Joseph, Ryan, Emoree, Rylee, and Landon. He was preceded in death by his wife Linda Hall Snodgrass, parents Jesse J. and Ethel Mae Snodgrass, his brother Jesse J. Snodgrass Jr. and his wife Judy Runnels Snodgrass.
